The American Maze Company, led by Don Frantz, pioneered bringing the art of the maze to America and to the cornfield. In 1993, we created the first-ever cornfield maze for both private and public entertainment at Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pennsylvania. Before 1993, mazes were primarily seen as a passive art form, with the largest maze built to fit the back lawn of an English manor. In its new American interpretation, The Amazing Maize Maze® has been recognized and replicated around the world as a unique and fun family entertainment option for the summer and harvest seasons.
Each living labyrinth is unique, stretching over acres and featuring an actual course length of more than two miles. The maze showcases larger-than-life designs, with past themes including a railroad train, a classic riverboat, a violin, the solar system, a farmscape, the largest living sundial, and even a re-creation of George Washington crossing the Delaware.
The Amazing Maize Maze was first created in 1993 by Don Frantz, the Creative Director of the American Maze Company (and founder of Town Square Production & Walkin’Broadway). Don's career spans everything from Super Bowl Half-Time Shows and World’s Fairs to Broadway productions, including his role as Associate Producer for Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King. His expertise has helped make the maze a national sensation, featured in USA Today, People, The New York Times, National Geographic, Good Morning America, and The Today Show.
The American Maze Company specializes in building mazes and assisting others in creating their own, based on our proven show, The Amazing Maize Maze.
